About David
David Woodman is Professor of History at Robinson College, Cambridge. He is a historian of the early medieval period, broadly speaking of the years c. 600-c. 1200, with particular interests in the tenth—twelfth centuries. Having recently completed a biography of Æthelstan, the first king of England, David is now working on a history of England from the reign of King Alfred the Great (d. 899) to that of William the Conqueror (d. 1087) with Basic Books. He is represented by Doug Young at PEW Literary. David regularly takes part in podcasts and writes for publications such as History Today and the BBC History Magazine. With Alex Burghart, Tom Holland, Simon Keynes and Michael Wood, David is campaigning for greater recognition of the birth of England in 927 under King Æthelstan.
